"Walk by Faith"

“Sorry, his condition is not getting any better”; “We have done all that we could”; “Only God can save her”, statements that none of us want to hear, but many of us face at least once in our life. And the people in these discussions are our generally the one’s we care most about. Death, failure, divorce, accidents, terminal diseases, pink slips, when times of such pain hit one’s life, what does one do?
For all of us it is easy to believe in God when we see a calm ocean, than when we see a tsunami. For all of us, God is easily seen in a new born than in a dead body. Again for all of us, God is easily found in times of peace, than in times of war. It is easier for us to thank God for our victories, than for our defeats. We love Him when we get what we want, but we are at a loss for words when He takes away something He gave. Wonder why?
Humans haven’t changed much. Even with all the new technologies, even though we have come a long way from wearing sheep skin, still something’s haven’t changed. We still can’t handle pain.
The old testament of the Bible talks about the Israelites. Amongst many other things, it tells us how God saved them from the hand of Egyptians and brought them to the Promised Land. Israel was lead by Moses in this particular journey. The Israelites were slaves of Egyptians, so before they could start the journey, Moses had to free them. To do this he had to go and negotiate with Pharaoh. And as we read in Exodus 5, the Pharaoh, not only rejected Moses’ plea for freedom, but also started torturing the Israelites. And just like many of us, do in times of pain, the Israelites started questioning God.
Let’s analyze why they questioned God. They questioned God because they did not know that this God could turn water to blood. They questioned God because they did not think that He has the power to provide them water from rocks. They questioned God because they did not think He could feed them with food from the heavens when they were starving. They questioned God because they did not think that He could part the Red Sea. They questioned God, because they lacked faith.
The test of faith does not happen when we get our bonuses, but when we lose our job. The test of faith does not happen when we are in good health, but when we are in cancer. The test of faith does not happen when we are in a happy marriage, but happens when we are desperately trying to save the marriage. The test of faith does not happen in the brightest parts of our life, but it happens in the darkest parts of it.
Faith is not about, just believing in God but it is also about, believing that our God is a God of the impossible (Luke 1:37). Faith is not about, just believing in God but it is also about, believing that God's plan for us is perfect (Jeremiah 29:11). Faith is not about, just believing in God but it is also about, realising that through all our suffering, God is leading us to the 'Promise Land'. Faith is not about, just believing in God but it is also about, running to Him when we need Him the most.
Coming back to the question I started with, here is the answer, have faith. The Creator knows our purpose, better than us. It is easy to walk to with God, when we understand the path He is leading us through. But this is not walking by faith. A walk with God in a path we don’t understand is a walk by faith.
Life may not be a walk in the park,
But it should always be a walk in faith.
