New Year - New Resolutions!
Another year passes us by, another 52 weeks, another 365 days. And like many years in the past, we will all sit back and introspect ourselves. We will do a little retrospect on the year, analyze what went right and what went wrong, at the end we come out with something we proudly call "The New Year Resolutions".
But if you take a look at these resolutions, you will realize how self-centered and self-obsessed we have become. Come to think of it, our self-obsession forced Oxford to introduce a new word in its dictionary - "Selfie". As a generation, our obsession with our lives is disturbing.
We are educated but ill-informed, we know our 'facebook' but we are barely able to grasp the world around us. Come to think of it, not very long ago the creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg said
"A squirrel dying in front of your house may be more relevant to your interests right now than people dying in Africa"

I shudder to think, what will this generation come to, are we truly headed towards becoming the generation of the last times, where "Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold" Matthew 24:12 (Bible).
I am not saying that setting goals to develop yourselves is wrong, but it is important that we understand, the impact of these goals. It's not wrong to say that "I want to earn a million dollars", but it is necessary to define what you will do with those million dollars. It's important for us to realize that all our qualifications, our property, our wealth is fleeting. We need to realize something that King Solomon understood long back "I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity" Ecclesiastes 1 (Bible).
Jesus explains this very well, when he says "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 (Bible)
If you ask me how to store up the treasures in heaven, the answer is easy "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 (Bible).
The things we do for ourselves will die with us, but the things we do for others will outlive us!!
Never forget what C.T. Studd said:-
