Generation of Misfits
A generation of misfits that’s
what we are, trying hard to fit-in, match-up, if it all fails we just fake-it
up. From fake noses to fake chests, we have it all. We will do anything just to
look right, anything to make ourselves feel right and anything to sound right.
Sometimes in our quest of trying
to be this Mr. Superman we lose ourselves, lose our identity and the in the
process lose the purpose for which we were created. We try to shape, modify and
recreate ourselves so much that in time, we end up becoming an imitation, and
miss out on the originality that God had engrained in us.
But then again, being is misfit
is alright, trying to fit-in is not.
Who better to understand this,
than from our Lord Jesus! Imagine being the Prince of the universe, being the
King of kings; Imagine walking in roads of gold, living in rooms of diamond;
Imagine living in a land where there’s no disease, no trouble, no pain, no
sorrow, just plain simple love and peace. And now imagine giving all that up,
to be born in a land of aimless pursuits, worthless bodies and sinful minds.
There couldn’t be a greater misfit that Christ himself, the God who became a
baby, the King who was born in a manager, the Ruler of the universe who became
a servant.
He was the greatest misfit that
the world will know. But it’s interesting to see how He continued being a
misfit throughout his life, never trying to fit in, reaching out to the people
who were hated the most, loving people who were neglected the most, breaking
chains of the possessed, holding hands of the leper, and redeeming the
prostitutes.
He could have tried to fit-in,
been one among the millions who lived and walked in His time. He could have
continued living a ritualistic life like his father, he could have continued
with their meaningless sacrifices, continued with his generations disrespect towards
Gods principles. But that was not what He had been called for, His purpose was
greater, His reason to be born was not to die a death that is caused by sin,
but was to a die death that would defeat death itself. His purpose was to
redeem us, teach the world to love again, think again and care again.
The greatest lesson that we all
need to learn this Christmas is to understand that God has plans for us; He has
a path chartered out for us. His plans are definitely greater than our plans,
His purposes greater than any purpose we can ever come up with. And by trying
to fit-in we are only losing out on a opportunity to serve a purpose that is
beyond us. By trying to fit-in we are ensuring that all of us live our lives in
a pattern, a pattern that takes us far from our mission and brings us close to
becoming an aimless wanderer concerned more about the material than the eternal.
It’s time we learnt this lesson,
it’s time that we understood that only the misfits in the world are mission fit
for the Kingdom!
Be a misfit and be mission fit!!
