"There is a One!"

Everyday was the same. The same long walk. The same walk that yielded nothing. It was a walk that made her think. It was a walk that made her curse her life. ‘I should have just stayed with the first guy. Why did I ever leave him?’ she thought ‘What a mess? Went searching for pleasure and look at me, what have I made of myself? I used to be so beautiful when I was young. I thought I could rule the world with my looks. Always thought my body would be enough for me to survive on this earth. But now it’s all gone. I thought I would never have to thirst, I thought life was going to be easy. But now I thirst and hunger, nothing satisfies me. What have I made of myself?’
After five husbands, more aptly put after living through five broken marriages, not many of us would have the will to survive, but this woman was still surviving. If it was not bad enough to have been in five broken marriages, now she was in a ‘live-in’ relationship, could things be worse?
She continued to walk. ‘Ah! There is the well finally. I am getting old, no doubt about that’ she told herself. As she neared the well, she noticed someone sitting there. And as she came closer she realized it was a Man, more than anything she noticed He was Jew. ‘What is he doing here? Must be taking break from his travel I guess. But doesn’t he have any other place to sit and rest. Oh! This is going to be so awkward’ she continued to think. ‘Why is he not moving? Does he not realize I am Samaritan? Come on! Move! Please!’ she was literally begging in her thoughts.
But this man could not be moved. Come to think of it how can a human move the Maker of heaven and earth with mere words, but still many of us try, and fail. And when we fail we talk about God not hearing our prayers, some prayers He will answer but not all prayers. Because the Father knows best, he knows better than our earthly fathers what we need and want. And he will provide us exactly what is required never more and surely never less.
Coming back to the story the man would not move and as the women approached the well shockingly he spoke to her. He told her things about her past. He told her things about the present and also told her things about the future. I wish I could continue the narration of this story, but then it is better to read it from John 4:3-42.
We may think no one knows our past. We think no one see’s our present. Some of us may even think that nobody cares about our future. But there is One, who knows our past, our present and our future. He is all knowing. And even after this He is unchanging. God is not prone to change. Once He speaks it is done. Once He promises it is fulfilled. Once He has accepted no one can reject. Once He has forgiven no one blame. And once He has chosen He cannot leave us out.
If we are thirsty, He has the living water. If we are hungry, He has the everlasting bread. If we are naked, He has the cloth of glory. And if we are lonely, He has loved us more than a friend.
