Come as you are!

“What are you wearing??!!!”, “Why is your hair such a mess??!!!”, “Ahhhh!!! Not a pimple, not today!!!” and the crying goes on. With so much money being put into surveys and advertisements to promote the importance of good looks, it is hard to ignore the fact that our looks can take us places. Beauty may be skin deep, but for many, it is a way of life. Many hours are spent in front of the mirror, lots of money on hairstyles, all this for acceptance.
For the many of us who don’t have those gorgeous looks and those who can’t afford body sculpting, ‘make-up’ comes to our rescue. I still remember those days when ‘make-up’ meant just putting some powder on the face, but now it’s about the layers of ‘make-up’. Now a day’s ‘make-up’ is not just about your face, its’ about the entire body. The so called beauty experts are finding new things to do each day with every part of our body. I remember those days when ‘make-up’ was just for the ladies, but now there is a significant increase within my gender, the males, to look handsome. Come to think of it the word ‘make-up’ itself tells us that, we are making up something we are not and we are making the world believe in things that we don’t have.
This rant of mine is not to detest the cosmetics industry and its practices, because I believe it is important to an extent that all of us look presentable, and clean externally. But it is for all of us to think about the beauty of our soul. Is our soul presentable to God? Everything here on earth is passing, its’ our soul, our deeds that will live after us.
Lets’ imagine our soul to be our body, and every sin we commit a pimple, a scar, or a bald spot. Now think of this every day, most of will commit at least one sin. Every day we add a new scar, a new pimple to our soul. Come to think of it, in a year we have added 365 pimples or scars, I hope all of us can see where this is going? Our souls must be the ugliest for God to look at. Would we accept someone so ugly? Well at least I wouldn’t.
This where God wants us to realize we are just and image of God, this where God wants to realize we are just a reflection of Him, our thoughts are not His, and our ways can never be His. Because God loves is beyond us. He says to us “Come to me.”(Matthew 11:28|Bible|The Message) He doesn’t ask us, to first go and cleanse your soul, but He says “Come”! If you are wondering why, the reason is simple, isn’t He the greatest beauty expert, who better to make us beautiful?
Another thing we need to remember, God does not need our make-up! Often many of us convince ourselves that we are living holy lives because we go to church, because we keep the Lent, sure all these are important, but all these will become a make-up, if we continue in our secret sins!
All these scars and pimples will remain on us, till we get them treated. The treatment is very easy, and it’s free of charge! Free of charge not because we earned it, but because the price has already been paid! The greatest beauty expert waits to purify us, of our sins, our burdens and make us a new creation!
Millions of dollars might not make us beautiful…
But simple faith will surely make us glorious!
